Joe Eberly, Senior Project Engineer at TRG, recently attended the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Central PA Section October dinner meeting. This meeting celebrated the “100 Year” anniversary of the Penn State University ASCE student chapter. Joe enjoys making a contribution to the local civil engineering professional community through his 20 year involvement with the organization. He started getting involved while he was in college at Penn State, serving as treasurer for two years and president for one year with the student chapter.
“[I wanted to] volunteer, make connections, get involved, and be active with that community,” Joe remarks. “I like seeing what’s going on in the region and being able to talk with other engineers.”
ASCE Central PA Section advocates for the civil engineering profession through meetings and activities such as hosting construction tours, student outreach through 5 student chapters on college campuses, and participating in activities at the Whitaker Center during engineering week. Joe currently serves as Treasurer for the 2022-23 Executive Board of Directors for the Central PA section. He has served as President for the Central PA section in the past.
In addition to his professional involvement, Joe also volunteers as a coach for Dallastown Cougar Baseball, a little league organization in Dallastown, PA. He’s worked with ages 7-9 since last fall (3 seasons). “They always need volunteers”, Joe comments. “[The best part of volunteering is] seeing kids get better at something they want to be doing.”
